Swapping the school run for a spectacular dawn hike

"I love walking in the hills but lack the courage to go off by myself in the dark."

I well and truly dosed up on fresh air and awe this morning by swapping the school run for a spectacular dawn hike with Sarah.

I love walking in the hills but lack the courage to go off by myself in the dark (my over-active imagination has a lot to answer for!). That’s why I jumped at the chance to go for a guided dawn hike with Sarah — she’s a qualified moorland leader and Edale walking expert, so I knew I’d be in safe hands.

I rarely go on guided hikes so wasn’t sure what to expect but Sarah had everything covered; she kept the pace relaxed and conversational (even though she regularly runs up these hills) and timed the walk to perfection, enabling us to watch the sun rise (with coffee and surprise snacks 😊) above the spectacular cloud inversion.

We ended the walk at the wonderful Penny Pot Cafe and I was back at work soon after 10am. It was an empowering and liberating way to start an otherwise ordinary Tuesday.

I can’t wait to go on more walks with Sarah. In fact, we’re thinking of running a guided green sketching hike together in the Edale area — send me a DM if you’re interested and would like more info.
